Funding for these projects included $60,000 from The Hoover Foundation of North Canton, OH, $2,000 from the Flowers Foundation, Canton, OH, in-kind donations of materials and labor from Earth Shuttle, Inc., Alliance, OH and a $5,300 grant from the Stark, Tusc, Wayne Waste Management District. Not to mention many hours of volunteer labor.
Additional goals for Phase One have since been added, they include:
- Educational Science Conservatory
- Native Ohio Butterfly House
- Additional hiking trails
- Pedestrian bridge to cross a stream tributary
Grants have been submitted for these additions to Phase One. We will keep you posted. Volunteers are needed for assistance with all of the Phase One elements. If you are interested, please contact our Executive Director.
How will our garden continue to grow?
- The Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve is growing with the support and dedication of an active board, members of the association and community leaders.
- Funding is also key to the success of this project. The grant committee pursues grant monies that line up with our mission, projects and goals.
- Funding is currently needed to hire a professional landscape architect firm to develop a master plan. This master plan will serve as a blueprint for the design and planting of the gardens, construction of buildings, and a phasing plan with real costs.
How much will the gardens cost to build?
We will have a good estimate once the master plan has been completed. However, we do know it will be in the millions. Keep in mind the development plans will be split up into several phases with each phase taking 3-5 years to complete.
How are the funds being raised?
With the master plan in hand, we will start a capital campaign in which businesses, foundations and community leaders will be called upon to make this growing landmark a reality. We will apply for any state and federal grants available. We will continue pursuing community fundraising through individual memberships, group support and special events.
When will the gardens be completed?
A garden project of this size will have to open in phases and may take many years to bring to fulfillment. Phase one will take 3-5 years to complete. More details will be available once our master plan has been developed. However, there are preliminary plans being drawn for opening woodland trails as soon as possible.
